first year at college—Ragging days–days as an underdog
My first year of college was i think the most memorable in the college time. The beginneing was the ragging period. The first night we were instructed by some of the seniors who were studying MCA course in our college about the rules and regulations to be followed during the ragging. How to greet people when they enter the room, the dressing for next one month, how to greet people on the way, about the bressing in the hostel,n sever dos and donts.
The style of greeting people was very unique-put one hand at your dick and the other one at your forehead with back of the palm touching the forehead. Then jump three times and say "Salaam Sir".
Then we were made to do a number of things for which we cursed our seniors. There were so called good or cool seniors and others who were bad and no one from the juniors liked them.
Everybody feared those people and noone dared to break a rule in front of them. After 8 oclock in the evening the hunters started slipping in the rooms secretly and started their daily chores of ragging. After 2 days it was routine.
Slowly the seniors started becoming cool n friendly. The relations were beginning to loosen up and become better.
We were about to get our freshers party a tragedy struck. That tragedy created a permanent void between the seniors and us which was there till the end.Well one of our batch mates could not bear the amount of ragging mated onto him.He decided to solve the matter by himself. He called some some local gundas to beat up the seniors.Fortunately for the senior they could not find him as he had gone home but it left a bad taste in everybodys mouth. We were mere spectators to these.
Very soon these days ended and we were busy in the college chores.
beginning of college days
The first day of my college was some out of the world experience.I never knew what was happening, i never knew what was i suppose to do.There was a lot of confusion, questions, expectations, excietment and mix of several feelings others of which included pride in making into an engineering college.
Well i saw somany new faces and that night i dreamed of becoming a university topper, being the most popular guy among the people wherever i go people will fall at me u know kind of "stud". But ohh why does this but nags in between you know some dreams are meant to be dreams like this one.Partially i can say cos i never topped-i used to be in bottom toppers in my class.
After the so called good start of college the progress got sluggish n i lost my flair for studies and that was a gift from my college.I litrally killed my interest in studies.
One Small thing can change a life???
Yes i think so.One incident which happened with me changed the whole meaning of my life, the course of it.
i was directionless and was looking for what in this world will give me utmost satisfaction.the incident is as follows:
i was travelling in unreserved category compartment-general compartment of Saurashtra Janta Express from Surendranagar to Borivali.I was standing as obviously there was no place to sit. With me was standing a guy named as Achintya Mukherjee.
He owned a factory which had unfortunately closed down due to some sad reasons. We got along very well talkin about many things, social evils national problems and many passengers were giving their viewpoints on this. There was a boy who boarded the train from some station which i dont remember. When we were talking in english that boy was continuously repeating the words-"how are you?".I caught him saying the words and asked him about himself.
He told a sad story that his father was a tea wendor and mother was no more.He left his studies because his friends told him there is no use studying and he should work. However it seemed evident that he had flair for learning. So i asked him if he wants to learn english or not.He said he wants to learn full A,B,C,D.
I started teaching him A-Z and by the time his station came we were through with building words and simple sentences. In the mean time i also told him what change he can bring about if he resumes his school. He understood the benifits of education to his family and assured me that he would goto school and ask his friends also do the same.
I went to his school sometime in the future and found he was there and his two other friends were also there. It was so heartening to know that such small incidents and our simple actions can make a big difference to some persons whole life.
From that day onwars my ultimate goal iin life is to spread the word of education and uplifment of society through educating.
Now what do you think about it?
a brief note on my life
like every one my life is a learning experience in many ways.
coming accross many people and different places in different situations. However the people at higher level have always misinterpreted me and because of that i have had a bad experience with them.
that was since the day i left my school which was the only place i had good experience with the people of higher authority
Well, like everyone my life has been a process of metamorphosis and has changed me from a selfish, self centred individual to a better human being, selfless guy who can goto wny extent to fulfill even the wishes of a person whom he dosent know properly. Many people will say this on reading-thats the saurabh we never knew n ssome will say he is the real saurabh. The truth is the situations which i have seen in life have made me more and more fearless, put something called self-respect,love for othes, selflessness and slowly a "krantikari" in me is taking birth.
